Author besties and why you need some!

Yesterday, I introduced you to one of my Author besties, a Newfoundland Author that I’ve known for years, J. Margot Critch (Juanita), and today I’m going to introduce you to another.

I met Candace Osmond on Facebook through an amazing group of all Newfoundland Authors called Romancing the Rock. I was added by Juanita and, without ever having met any of the other members in real life, was completely excited to have a group of like-minded people to chat with.

Then someone commented that to Candace that she wasn’t the only member on the west coast of the island anymore. West coast?!? I’m from the west coast! Who was this woman?

So we made plans to meet at Tims, a satisfyingly Canadian institution, to chat and see if we had anything in common besides writing. Yeah…we were like the same person, in different bodies, with a few exceptions!15319514_10154599430716163_1743151027_n

Since that day, the three of us, Candace, Juanita, and I, have become a trio of awesomeness, with the single goal of bolstering one another and lending support in whatever way we can. This way often includes wine. Through this friendship, I’ve found two women who have seen me through some pretty down moments and celebrated with me in the up moments. We’ve shared every breakthrough and newly gleaned piece of publishing or marketing information with one another and because of it, we’ve all become stronger at our craft.

You already know that Juanita, or J. Margot Crtich, writes super sexy Harlequin Blaze novels, but she’s also published a few others. She has an amazing Newfoundland based contemporary romance series called Brewed Moon with book I, Bump & Grind. Already out and the second, Double Shot to the Heart, coming very soon. They’re steamy, suspenseful, cop romances and you’ll love them!

Now Candace, she’s our dark romance girl. Her first book, became book one of The Iron World Series, is a paranormal romance. Growing up surrounded by Irish culture on the island of Fogo, Newfoundland, Candace got an early education in Celtic folklore, including everything faerie. That education gave her a rich background of knowledge to pick and choose from for her trilogy, and it shows. The first book in the series, Iron and Wine, is permafree on Amazon, so there’s literally nothing hold you back from getting it on your eReader now! As for her other books, The Donor, an Orphan Black type romance about cloning, and Killer Me, a psychological thriller with a hint of romance, you should definitely go get them right now! I love them all, but I have a special spot in my heart for Killer Me. It’s like Dexter, but staring a kick ass female lead!

Being an Author is often quiet, lonely work, but knowing these two chicks are just a click away, makes my job a hell of a lot more entertaining!

We get by with a little help from our friends…

I’ve had a pretty big month.
MBK EBOOK RGB.JPGDuring the month of November, I’ve published 2 novels and worked with an editor on a new release that is coming out in just 9 days! I’ve also been a wife and a mother, and I’ve worked.
So, it came as no surprise to me when I yesterday
I got to the point where enough was enough and my body said “stop.”
Today I stopped. I didn’t write, I didn’t work, I didn’t mom (for a good portion of the day). I relaxed, watched some tv, and read a book.
I can’t remember the last time I read an entire book in a day. I’m usually so busy writing them. But, today I read an upcoming release by one of my author besties, J. Margot Critch, and it was wonderful! It’s called In Her Best Friend’s Bed, and it knocked my socks off! It was seriously sexy!
This book is a continuation of her first Harlequin, In the Boss’s Bed, which was fantastic! In that story, the lead characters of this book, Trevor and Abby, are introduced. Since I loved the first book, I was postively shocked to realize that I loved this story even more! Trevor and Abby are young and still trying to find themselves, a state which I know very well, although I’m not quite as young as I used to be.
The passion is palpable and leaps from the pages, you will not want to put this one down. At one point in the story, I gasped. I GASPED!!  How’s that for a story that draws you in!
So, if you’re tired, worn out, or really happy and just have a day to celebrate, check her out. You won’t regret it.

So, MBK is available for pre-order.. but what does that mean and should you pre-order? How does it help authors?

YES! Pre-ordering does something really cool for authors. On release day, all those pre-orders get cashed in and suddenly your brand new on the market book is shot through the rankings to a place on Amazon or Apple Books where people can see it and purchase it. It also means that people like me can go from the title “Paranormal romance Author” to “Bestselling Paranormal romance Author.” Pretty cool huh.

Here’s the thing. My book goes live November 20th and from now until then I’m going to be collecting the names of everyone who pre-orders, as long as they send me a screen shot of their pre-order. There’s going to be prizes up for grabs!!!

So, spread the word, place your pre-order and let me know!!!

Romancing the Rock brings the heat!!!

So, you probably know from my previous post that I’m a part of an amazing group of Newfoundland Authors and we call ourselves Romancing the Rock. Among our numbers are USA TODAY bestsellers, New York Times bestsellers and other award winning Authors.

We decided that it was unkind to humanity to hold back our collective talent (joking!!!), so we’re putting together an anthology of amazing Halloween themed short stories including my contribution… EYES HAVE SEEN!!!

While the cover of the anthology TRICKS & TREATS hasn’t been unveiled yet… here’s a little tease reveal of my short story.  ENJOY!!

In honor of our first anthology, I’m going to draw a name from anyone who subscribes to my mailing list between now and Sunday at 8 pm *Newfoundland time* and the WINNER will get a FREE e copy of BLOOD OF EDEN!!!

Or, you can just one-click AMAZON.CA and purchase your very own copy of Blood of Eden!

Anthology excitement!

You may not know this about me, yet, but Halloween is my absolute favorite night of the year! I mean, I love Christmas too, it’s so magical… but there’s just something about Halloween that makes me so happy.

So, when the amazing Candace Osmond (author website here) texted me that we should get our Newfoundland author friends together and publish a Halloween anthology, I squealed with absolute joy!

The two of us were game completely but it was left to be seen if the rest of our group Romancing the Rock would come on board. Some were too busy with upcoming releases and deadlines but most were as stoked as we were.

So… now that I’ve bored you on the details… get excited for Romancing the Rock’s first anthology of Halloween short stories, written by exclusively Newfoundland authors!!!

Hot-Sale-Black-Sexy-Woman-Lace-Mask-Cutout-Eye-Mask-for-Masquerade-Party-Halloween-Fancy-Dress.jpgHere’s a little hint at mine…

Eyes have seen – JJ King

Despite being the first born child to the North American wolf pack Alpha, Katherine has always been allowed to run a bit wild. It’s a new century now, though, so she’s decided it’s time to make the transformation from child to woman and her parent’s Halloween masked ball is just the event to make that happen. Unfortunately, a hunter has decided that this event is just what he’s been waiting for too.

Katherine’s night might have begun full of mystery and sexy interludes, but it may just end in death.

Aghhh!!!  I can’t wait!  Hope you’re as excited as I am!

Loves me some reviews…

Hi everyone!  I’ve been getting some amazing reviews on Blood of Eden and I just thought I’d post them.  Cause,  you know, they make me feel pretty good.

Wendy Livingstone from Wendy’s Book Blog – 5 star review

Firstly let me say that I am not a fan of paranormal romances, but this author has managed to change my mind. I was blown away by this book!! This story is written in such a way that I was completely enthralled from the very beginning. The author has such a way with words that the reader is lulled into feeling that they are actually in the story.

This is an awesomely written book, and I am totally in awe of the author for writing such a fantastic story as a debut book. I will definitely be recommending and reading more from this author.

Nicole from Emerald Book Review – 4 star review

In Blood of Eden, JJ King manages to take everything you think you know about the paranormal genre and not only turn it on its head but also give you an exhilarating experience in doing so. This is not a fluffy piece of romance, it is complex, superior and intriguing in the most epic way imaginable. Katherine is our incredibly fascinating heroine, the kind that every woman should emulate- she’s strong-willed, fierce, sexual, ambitious and a helluva brilliant lawyer. And she’s part wolf. It is when the enigmatic and mysterious Quinn Deschains shows up in Katherine’s life rather unexpectedly that the tension, fun, danger and sex really kicks into action.

‘She, unlike most of her family, felt that her wolf was a part of her to be cherished and respected, but that it didn’t need to be a part of her everyday life. She was a wolf, yes, but she was also Katherine LaFlamme, and Katherine had a life to live; a human life.’

Not only is Blood of Eden full of complicated, other world creatures, the rules they’re governed by and the lust and animal magnetism that often governs them but it also has one fast-paced, dramatic story line with some very adult scenes mixed in. This is a very well written story, the descriptions, the language, the dialogue and how the characters interact with one another is like having a movie play out, scene for scene, in your head, JJ is very talented at capturing her audience and giving them what they never knew they needed. It was often times unpredictable and that made it all the more thrilling. The only small problem I had with the entire book was Katherine’s little love triangle. I’m not a huge fan of them and there is a particular scene in Blood of Eden that just didn’t paint our heroine in a great light for me as well as made Quinn look slightly weak but the ending more than made up for any of that.

If you’re looking for a very adult paranormal read, with mature themes and great writing then this is the book for you.

Mellena from The Book Quarry – 5 star review

After reading this book I was near speechless. This book was in a word phenomenal! It had spectacular world building, complex characters and descriptive writing I would expect from a seasoned writer. I could hardly believe the book I just read was a debut novel! I absolutely loved it. The author took her time building her characters and yet she didn’t lose me as a reader. It was interesting throughout the book. I was deeply intrigued from the synopsis and was completely enthralled by her writing. I was hooked from the first chapter.

The way the characters interacted with each other made me feel as if I was part of the group. I was right there for the entire story. Nothing was rushed but the entire book was just so compelling I didn’t want to put it down. The romance was not an easy one and it certainly didn’t follow a straight path. The way is set for the next book and I am so looking forward to it. This book has captured me and I am excited to share it with everyone who would love a paranormal romance.
